University of Pittsburgh Installs UBU Sports Synthetic Turf System on Football Practice Field

Its other outdoor practice field will remain grass.

“From a feasibility standpoint in terms of weather and being able to stay out there in all conditions, which allows our team to be the best they can be, a synthetic turf practice field made a lot of sense,” said Chris LaSala, Assistant Athletic Director – Football Operations at the University of Pittsburgh, noting that the football team would encounter dew on the grass during early morning practices in late October and November. The new synthetic turf field, according to LaSala, will alleviate some of the stress on the remaining grass field, allowing the Panthers football team to spend more time on it than in previous years.

The new field extends the University of Pittsburgh’s relationship with UBU Sports as the Panthers football team also practices on a state-of-the-art UBU Sports surface at the indoor practice facility it shares with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Speed Series S5-M synthetic turf system is the same surface that 14 NFL teams either practice or play on. It was recently installed at U.S. Bank Stadium, the new home of the Minnesota Vikings.
