T&L Foundation for Child Care Information Announces Awardees for Child Care Mini-Grant
Moorpark, CA, June 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- T&L Foundation for Child Care Information (T&L Foundation) announced 15 awards totaling $3,920.00 to address health and wellness in child care. T&L Foundation received 1,116 applications, requesting just over $349,500.00.
The mini-grants are intended for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) family child care providers and CACFP sponsoring organizations. These are individuals and organizations already committed to quality child care, school readiness, healthy children, food insecurity solutions and childhood obesity prevention.
The mini-grant projects funded focus on one of 4 objectives:
* Overall quality of health and wellness in child care settings
* Enhancing nutrition and healthy eating habits in child care settings
* Enhancing physical activity in child care settings
* Engaging parents in education of health and wellness via child care provider relationships
“We were overwhelmed by the number of applications submitted for such a small amount of money!” says Samantha Marshall, T&L Foundation’s co-founder and President. “The sheer volume of applications we received, from all over the country, makes it clear there is a need. There is a tremendous desire to create healthier environments for children in child care but providers and those supporting them are under resourced.”
T&L Foundation is looking forward to spending more time analyzing the data received through this process to understand how to best use their resources to support the child care community.
Projects awarded focusing on nutrition include farm to table, family style meal service and breastfeeding. Those concentrating on physical activity include creating safer outside play areas, yoga instruction and portable equipment to meet best practices for indoor/outdoor environments. “Through reading these applications we can see the impact $250 can make on an entire community,” says Chris Clark, co-founder and member-at-large of the board. “The applicants, oftentimes, expanded their focus of the children’s health and wellness in their program by engaging family members and the community at large to create a culture of health.”
