County Treasurer, Bob Robinson, to Hold Public Discussion on Tax Foreclosed Property Auctions

Charlotte, MI, June 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- County Treasurer, Bob Robinson, will hold a public discussion at Union Street Community Center on Wednesday, August 3 in Eaton Rapids from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to inform citizens of the Eaton Rapids area about the rules and regulations of Eaton County’s upcoming new real property tax auctions. More than forty Eaton County properties were tax foreclosed by the treasurer’s office on April 1. For the first time, these properties will be made available for purchase at a locally held public auction in the Commissioners Chambers at the Eaton County Governmental Complex on Tuesday September 8 at 6:00 p.m.

“There are some tremendous deals that will be available at our property auction,” said Treasurer, Bob Robinson. “But caution should always be taken before placing a bid. Bidders should thoroughly research and understand the land they want to buy. I’ll discuss the rules and regulations, and the pitfalls to watch out for when buying property at the auction. I’ll also answer questions about the auction process and explain how to register to buy properties. Anyone interested in bidding on foreclosed property in Eaton County will find it helpful to attend one of these informative discussions.”

The September auction will be held according to the provisions of Public Act 206 of 1893 – MCL 211.787(m). Parcels are auctioned with a minimum bid equal to the amount of back taxes, interest, fees, and costs due. There will be two tax sales held at the Governmental Complex in Charlotte. The second will be on October 20.

“Tax foreclosure is an absolute tragedy,” added Treasurer Robinson. “But these property tax auctions give us the opportunity to turn the tragedy into something fresh and new, and return property to productive use again. That helps local businesses, school districts, farmers, and residents. It also increases property values for everyone.”

A list of auction properties is posted on the treasurer’s website.
