Washington DC-Based Fairlington Dental Supports National Charity Addressing the Psychosocial Needs of Children with Cancer and Their Families

Washington, DC, July 06, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Fairlington Dental, one again, showed its commitment to area residents and children with cancer, by help The Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation raise over $85,000 this May at its annual Walk and Family Festival. Once again, Fairlington Dental financially supported the Foundation and participated in its annual Walk. All proceeds raised during the event go to address the psychological, emotional and social support needs for children with cancer and their families.

This is not the first time that Fairlington Dental has stepped up and supported the needs of children with Cancer. Fairlington Dental has for several years been a strong supporter of the Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation. For several years now, Fairlington Dental has participated in the organization’s annual post-Halloween candy drive, which collects excess Halloween candy for distribution to local hospitals and organizations in the greater Washington, DC area. This past year’s drive netted over 7,000 pounds of candy.

Fairlington Dental also supports the foundation by donating hundreds of items to the organization’s annual Spring Item drive, which collects toiletries, shampoo, soap and of course toothbrushes and toothpaste to donate to local hospitals, so that parents that find themselves unexpectedly having to admit their children to the hospital overnight, are supplied with these items. The items are used to stock a snack and item cart at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

The Mattie Miracle Cancer Foundation spearheaded an effort to create and implement Standards of Care to ensure patients and families have access to a minimum level of psychosocial care from the time of diagnosis, through survivorship, or end of life and bereavement care. “We learned firsthand during Mattie’s treatment and end of life that childhood cancer is not just about the medicine!
