New Zealand Students Study Tour at NSC

Oswestry, United Kingdom, July 08, 2016 --(PR.com)-- A group of agricultural students from Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre in New Zealand have spent the last three weeks at the Walford Campus, as part of a cultural exchange. Three students and an accompanying member of staff made the 24-hour plane journey to North Shropshire to experience a day in the life of an NSC agriculture student and to visit local cultural attractions.

The students are from Taratahi in New Zealand and their college owns over 50,000 sheep, cattle and deer as well as over 2,500 dairy cows. The exchange was an eye-opening experience for the students, who throughout their stay stayed in the accommodation at the Walford Campus and visited the Walford Farm, a considerably smaller farming enterprise to what they are used to.

James Cundy, tutor from Taratahi College, commented, “We’ve really enjoyed our stay here, my students have integrated well with the NSC students. We have joined in with lessons and we have seen the differences and similarities between the two colleges. I am impressed by the animal care department of the college, as we do not have anything like it in New Zealand.”

Students experienced a wide range of activities during their time at NSC and in North Shropshire. They were able to visit local farming enterprises, such as: the JCB factory, Randal Parker Foods in Llanidloes, Fullwoods milking parlour, Little Ness Poultry Farm and the Sansaw Estate. As well as agricultural experiences the students were able to visit the local cultural attractions, such as: Delamere Forest Alton Towers, the Berwyn Mountains, a trip to London, Harlech Castle and much more.
