RBA Acoustics Wins Vibration Category at ANC’s Annual Awards

Royston, United Kingdom, July 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The company’s winning project involved the conversion of office buildings within the exclusive area of Mayfair, inside Central London, into a series of high value apartments. Located just above the London Underground’s Jubilee Line, the site was originally affected by high levels of ground borne noise and vibration from underground train movements.

RBA Acoustics’ solution used a comprehensive range of techniques including the removal of the existing basement floor and cutting “pockets” into original walls to mount the new floor joists. Despite the Listed Building restrictions, RBA managed to reduce the LAF Max levels by over 15dB and achieve full compliance with the client’s stringent requirements.

The ANC award judges were impressed by the innovative and practical solution, which was intriguing in its approach. The consultants had worked closely with the other members of the project team - in particular the structural engineer - and had the nerve to remove what they could, leaving only the exterior wall in contact with the ground. It scored highly on originality and a clear design concept that was followed through to completion with regular site visits and for these reasons it is the 2016 winner.

As part of the prize, RBA Acoustics’ staff received a brand new 2250 Light from Bruel & Kjaer UK, during the awards, which were presented at a dinner on 29th June in Birmingham’s Crowne Plaza.
