Podiatrist Doing Medical Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic
Dr. Maryellen Brucato of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Centers will be volunteering to perform surgical foot and ankle care to remote parts of the Dominican Republic.
Oradell, NJ, July 13, 2016 --(PR.com)-- In January 2017, Dr. Maryellen Brucato of New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center in Oradell will travel with a team of orthopedic surgeons to the Dominican Republic to treat patients in need of foot and ankle surgical care.
In 2005, she first traveled to the Dominican Republic on a medical mission trip as a college student. The rural parts of the country close to the Haitian border are very poor and do not receive access to regular health care. The hospitals are far away and the people living in the villages do not have transportation to go to the doctor.
“When I went on this trip,” said Dr. Brucato, “I promised that one day after I became a doctor, I would go back and help. I am happy to now have the opportunity and support to go.”
The doctors have to bring all of their own surgical supplies, instruments, and even pay for the electricity they use during the operations. They are raising money to purchase enough medicine and supplies for the procedures. The more money they raise, the more patients they can provide services to.
If you would like to contribute to the fundraiser, please go to www.gofundme.com/drbsmission. All supplies must be purchased and shipped to the medical center by August 2016. If you have any questions, please call New Jersey Foot and Ankle Center at 201-261-9445 or visit them online at www.njfootpain.com.
