Scottish Government Names Dr. Avis Glaze as International Education Adviser

Tsawwassen, Canada, July 17, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Avis Glaze has been named as one of ten expert international education advisers for the government of Scotland. Glaze, who once served as Ontario Education Commissioner, also served as Adviser to the Minister of Education in Ontario. She was the Chief Student Achievement Officer of Ontario and the founding CEO of Ontario’s Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat.

The panel of internationally renowned experts will advise the Scottish government on improvements to the nation’s education system and on lessons that can be learned from other countries. It will include experts in closing the attainment gap, achieving equity, and system reform, following First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s pledge to ensure Scotland’s education system is world class. She has also pledged to close the attainment gap, and to widen access to higher and further education for those from more challenging socio-economic backgrounds.

“Education is my focus,” says Sturgeon, “and this announcement demonstrates our determination to learn lessons from around the world to ensure that Scotland is a global leader in education. Giving every child in Scotland an excellent education and improving prospects for all our young people is at the heart of the Scottish Government’s priorities this term.”

Glaze says she feels privileged to be appointed as an international adviser. “I am honoured,” says Glaze. “What l like most about Scotland is that they already have a very progressive educational system. But they do not rest on their laurels. They believe in continuous improvement. ‎With their thinking and determination, they will lead the world on what works in improving educational systems and schools."

Glaze is an internationally-known educator, having worked in over 40 countries and U.S states. She also served as Adviser to the Minister of Education in New Zealand. She now lives in Tsawwassen, B.C..
