Bishop of Rochester Will Install Rev. Julie A. Cicora as Rector of St. Peter's Church
Rochester, NY, January 17, 2008 --(PR.com)-- On January 31, 2008 at 7 pm. Bishop Jack McKelvey will install the Rev. Julie A. Cicora as the new Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Henrietta. Rev. Cicora left a leading position with Hewlett-Packard Company to become Priest-in-Charge of St. Peter's in October 2006. The Priest-in-Charge position is generally a temporary position.
Rev. Cicora, who has become known for her rousing sermons, has led the congregation to grow over 25% in just one year. This growth includes many younger congregants and families with children. As a result, St. Peter’s has increased the size of its Sunday School.
St. Peter's Church is a progressive Episcopal congregation who is among the most diverse Episcopal parishes in the metropolitan Rochester area. Aside from the many African-American and Caribbean parishioners, St. Peter's also has members who have roots in Armenia, Lebanon, Germany, England, and Central America.
In 1979, St. Peter's Church made history by calling the first ordained female priest in the Diocese of Rochester as its Rector. Since then the tradition has continued, with Rev. Cicora being the third female Rector of St. Peter's.
St. Peter's has issued approximately 5000 invitations to Episcopal, Catholic, and Protestant Clergy, Public Officials, the Press and the Community to attend the traditional liturgy of installation, which is being officiated by The Rt. Rev. Jack McKelvey, Bishop of Rochester. Bishop McKelvey will retire later this year.
