A Glimmer of Hope Foundation Donates $110,000 to Magee-Womens Research Institute

Pittsburgh, PA, January 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- A Glimmer of Hope Foundation, a Pittsburgh based non-profit organization that supports breast cancer research, today presented a check in the amount of $110,000 to the Magee-Womens Research Institute. The donation was presented by Glimmer of Hope Foundation president, Diana Napper, Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Alan Faneca and his wife, Julie Faneca.

“We are extremely happy and proud to be able present Magee with this check to further fund the study into pre-menopausal breast cancer, a largely under funded and understudied womens disease” said Glimmer of Hope Foundation president, Diana Napper. “We’re dedicated to changing the way pre-menopausal breast cancer research is funded and studied.”

“We are so very thankful to Diana Napper, and to Alan and Julie Faneca, for their longstanding and steadfast support of the very exciting and cutting-edge breast cancer research being done at Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI),” said Peggy Joy, chair of the Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation. “The amount The Glimmer of Hope Foundation has been able to raise has been tremendous in funding research here at Magee.

“We are very proud to be part of this great cause and extremely happy to be able to present Magee with this check,” said Ms. Faneca. “This disease is close to all of our hearts and we are dedicated to finding a cure.”

MWRI also presented Alan and Julie Faneca, and Diana Napper with awards recognizing them for all their hard work and support in raising awareness and funds to further the research into breast cancer.

Established in 1992, MWRI was one of the first research centers to focus specifically on health conditions affecting women and their babies. Now in its second decade, the Institute has grown from 20 faculty members to more than 260 scientists and staff. Construction of a $31 million expansion of the Institute building was completed in 2007 where 70,000 square feet of lab space was added.

A Glimmer of Hope has been supporting breast cancer research since 1994 and has raised over $900,000 to further fund the largest pre-menopausal breast cancer study in the United States. For more information please contact Mathew Simmons at 412-585-1441.
