Indianapolis, IN, July 31, 2016 --(PR.com)-- TreeStuff.com is bringing the world’s largest climbing competition to Arsenal Park this Labor Day weekend. Free for spectators, Jambo welcomes 80 professional climbers to compete for more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. Jambo is not only a competition, but a festival featuring games, food, and more.
Many of the competitors are full-time tree care professionals during the week, trimming, treating, and removing trees for homeowners, municipalities, or utility companies. One of Jambo’s continuing goals is to simulate the environments and tasks these workers deal with daily, while adding the speed and excitement of competition. This year’s Jambo will be the world’s first tree climbing event to put competitors in 4 to 5 person teams. It will also be the world’s largest gender neutral climbing competition.
Jambo is not just for professional arborists. There will be activities open to the public, including adult and children’s games, local food, and more. The wide range of activities will offer arborists a chance to test their skills as well as give novices an opportunity to try climbing a tree like the pros. Training organizations Tree Climbing Planet and Tree Climbers International will host guided recreational climbs for children and adults.
“Tree climbing is a cool spectator sport most people never expect,” said Nick Bonner, the event coordinator. “It’s physical and exhilarating. These people are swinging from limb to limb 50 feet in the air. It’s not something you see every day. Plus, five $1,000 prizes really pumps up the competition.”
The event is open all day, September 3 - 5 at Arsenal Park, 1400 46th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46205. Jambo is free and open to the public. Participation in adult climbing activities requires a $10 registration fee and signed waiver. Children’s activities are free. Off-site camping is available.
Jambo 2015 was a huge success, with over 1,000 attendees from all over the world. “Jambo is a blast” said professional arborist Dan Severino at last year’s event. “It’s a new wave of tree climbing, and I can’t wait for it to get better and better.”
