Basketball Travelers and Mountain West Conference Announce Strategic Partn
Seattle, WA, August 03, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Basketball Travelers Inc. (BTI) and the Mountain West Conference (Basketball) are pleased to announce a strategic partnership focused on enhancing the experience for men’s and women’s basketball teams to participate in a series of collegiate competitions. Going forward, Mountain West men’s basketball teams will now be part of a regular rotation in the US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam tournament and the Great Alaska Shootout, both held each November in the annual offering of early-season events. In addition, Mountain West men’s and women’s teams will have the opportunity for guaranteed participation in future events under development.
“The Paradise Jam is entering its 18th year, and of course the Great Alaska Shootout is one of the two original early-season men’s basketball events,” said Nels Hawkinson, Co-founder of Basketball Travelers. “The Mountain West Conference has a rich history of competitive teams, and we welcome them into these events, where their coaches and student-athletes have an annual opportunity to showcase their talents to national broadcast, digital and live audiences.”
“It is important for Mountain West basketball programs to play tough competition in great exempt events while providing each team national exposure,” said Dan Butterly, Senior Associate Commissioner, Mountain West. “Partnering with BTI allows us guaranteed entry into quality, and historically known tournaments, with great competition, and guarantees our teams positions for future events we might develop together.”
“The Great Alaska Shootout is entering its 38th year and we’re excited to begin welcoming the Mountain West Conference to our event on an annual basis,” said Keith Hackett, Director of Athletics, University of Alaska-Anchorage. “We’ve been focused on re-constituting the Shootout with BTI, and this partnership is an example of how we are creating stability and momentum for the tournament, and begin to return it to the prominence it once held in the national college basketball rotation.”
While Nevada’s men’s basketball team is currently slated for the Great Alaska Shootout in 2016, and Paradise Jam in 2018, Mountain West teams will officially begin a rotation in the 2018 GAS, and 2019 PJAM. Additional teams from the Conference will be added to future events that Basketball Traveler’s is currently developing.
Basketball Travelers is reaching out to other conferences to create similar partnerships, and welcomes interest from across the Division I landscape.
