Going Green? What About Your Health?

Pittsburgh, PA, January 18, 2008 --(PR.com)-- As American’s turn “green” for the health of the planet, an underlying health trend may follow. As your consumer options for everything from carpeting to cars promote “green” products with an underlying message of planet friendly, Pittsburgh naturopathic physician, Darrell Misak, encourages label awareness when it comes to consumables. “Grandma was right, you are what you eat,” he stated before elaborating that your diet and environment make up your health and the “green” trend may follow with statistics to back that up.

The market already shows that health and green show favorable responses to consumers with new flavored waters seemingly appearing every month. However, Dr. Misak warns consumer to read the label. He suggested that many of these new products attract consumers by the name, color, or suggested health benefits, and went on to suggest that some ingredients may not be healthy. For example, he suggested that aspartame, aesulfame K, or sucralose, which are used as zero carb sweeteners may have negative effects on insulin secretion, kidney elimination, and has studies suggesting they can promote tumor formation and/or affect your immune system. His favorite statement was “don’t believe a word I say, research to learn and understand for yourself” as he encourages consumers to do a google search on any ingredient you can’t pronounce or know what it is.

On a positive note, Dr. Misak told reporters that the trend towards consuming vitamin and mineralized waters will impact the general health of our population. He firmly believes in a cellular health concept that every cell of your body is a healthy as it can be based on the environment you create for it. Keeping this in mind, he suggested that as consumers continue to buy “green” they are having an impact on their personal cellular environment which “can only have a positive health effect.” His website (www.PittsburghAlternativeHealth.com) describes this theory in a 5 phase health approach that in a simple way stirs controversy to today’s health model of disease diagnosis and medical treatment.

Any way you look at it, improving your personal health and the environment through “green” products shows a positive trend in society with concern for a greater cause and global awareness. The question is whether this trend becomes a general way of life.
