DFW’s Biggest Celebration of National Black Breastfeeding Week
Dallas, TX, August 22, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Chocolate Milk Festival: Celebrating Black Breastfeeding Families is hosted by RootMama Maternal Care at the DeSoto Civic Center on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 2 pm – 5 pm. The event will convene expecting and new Black parents from southern DFW and beyond to uplift and celebrate breastfeeding families during National Black Breastfeeding Week (observed August 25 – 31).
“I’ve been really thrilled with the enthusiastic support of the community for this inaugural event. In the breastfeeding community, Black women are often marginalized to a corner or backburner of big organizations. However, we can create our own platform on our own terms,” stated event organizer Freya Mórani. Black Breastfeeding Week was created because for over 40 years there has been a gaping racial disparity in breastfeeding rates. The most recent CDC data show that 75% of white women have ever breastfed versus 58.9% of Black women.
