Alfred Hitchcock Meets Marvel Comics via a Bond Villain’s Hideaway at New Liverpool Art Gallery Exhibition
Liverpool, United Kingdom, January 23, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Imagined Landscapes, the first solo show by recent graduate Chris Mills, opens on Friday January 25th at The Artfinder’s Gallery in Liverpool. Drawing inspiration from sources ranging from contemporary masters, such as Peter Doig and Ed Ruscha, visionary landscapes by Casper Friedrich and the Japanese woodcuts of Kawasi Hasui and Hirotage, the paintings are stylish, clean and cinematic.
Talking about his paintings Chris Mills says “I like to introduce alien or unrealistic elements into my paintings to create the atmosphere of unrealistic or fictitious reality.” He continues “In turn these resemble dystopian and utopian artificial environments influenced by popular culture sources such as film, science fiction, B movie horror, cult television and comic books from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.”
Lydia Bates, The Artfinder says “I’m a big fan of Chris’s work, he has a knack for creating landscapes that feel very real while being remaining unworldly. They have a great sense of scale and space and it is easy to imagine that you are looking at a screen in a darkened cinema rather than a canvas.” She adds “I’m very pleased to be able to give Chris his first solo show, his is one name to watch for the future”.
Imagined Landscapes runs from January 25th until March 4th 2008. The Artfinder’s Gallery is open on Wednesdays and ‘by appointment’ at all other time by calling 0845 257 0357 or e-mailing gallery@lydiabates.com. The paintings can also be viewed online at www.lydiabates.com.
