Detroit Architect Stephen E. Smith Elected 2008 President of the American Institute of Architects Michigan

The American Institute of Architects Michigan (AIA Michigan) announced the election of Detroit architect Stephen E. Smith, AIA, as its 2008 president.

Detroit, MI, January 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The American Institute of Architects Michigan (AIA Michigan) announced the election of Detroit architect Stephen E. Smith, AIA, as its 2008 president.

Other newly elected AIA Michigan Officers include Ronald R. Campbell, AIA, the historic preservation architect for Oakland County (Waterford) as vice president, Douglas W. Kueffner, AIA, of Wigen, Ticknell, Meyers & Associates Inc. (Saginaw) as secretary and Alan H. Cobb, FAIA, of Albert Kahn Associates Inc. (Detroit) as treasurer. Dennis M. King, FAIA, of Harley Ellis Devereaux (Southfield) sits on the board as past president and Frederick F. Butters Esq. FAIA, of Thomas M. Keranen & Associates P.C. (Bloomfield Hills) as regional director.

In his role as AIA Michigan president, Smith will address a range of issues, including the role of the architect in society, the AIA as a resource for professional knowledge, mentorship of those entering the profession, education, and environmental stewardship.

Smith is a partner and senior vice president of TMP Associates, Inc. in Bloomfield Hills. Specializing in projects for large school bond programs, as well as municipal and college/university projects, his work has impacted numerous young people. Additionally, he is involved in the American Library Association, neighborhood organizations and Boy Scouts of America.

Smith has achieved a long and distinguished record of service to the AIA. With AIA Michigan, he has served as a student mentor on the mentoring committee since 2002, the Detroit director on the board of directors from 2004 to 2005, the secretary in 2006 and the vice president/president-elect and a member of the government affairs committee in 2007.

His AIA Detroit honors include serving as secretary in 2000-2001, vice president/president-elect in 2002, president in 2003 and past president in 2004. Additionally, he was on the house tour committee for several years and was the computer technology committee chairman from 1997-1998.
