Cuba and Russia Signed an Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy
The Government of the Republic of Cuba and the Government of the Russian Federation signed an intergovernmental agreement on peaceful uses of atomic energy on the sidelines of the 60th General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna on September 27, 2016.
Singapore, Singapore, September 30, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Government of the Republic of Cuba and the Government of the Russian Federation signed an intergovernmental agreement on peaceful uses of atomic energy on the sidelines of the 60th General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna on September 27, 2016.
The document was signed by Sergey Kirienko, CEO of Rosatom, from the Russian side and by Jose Fidel Santana, Vice Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, from the Cuban side.
The Agreement is the legal basis for further bilateral cooperation between Cuba and Russia in a wide range of areas of the civil nuclear power, such as nuclear medicine and radiation technology; training of nuclear specialists; fundamental and applied researches; management of radioactive wastes and spent sealed radiation sources, etc.
The Agreement envisages the formation of the coordination committee that will control the Agreement implementation, handle any issues that may arise in the process of the implementation, and consult on any matters related to peaceful uses of atomic energy. The Parties also agreed on creating joint work teams that will carry out particular projects and scientific research, exchange experts, organize seminars and symposiums, and provide assistance in scientific and technical personnel training, exchange scientific and research information for the purposes of the Agreement.
