"The Association's Find A Medicare Supplement Agent online directory is the largest online resource of Medigap agents but we get many calls from consumers wanting a specialist local to their area," explains Jesse Slome, AAMSI director. With Medicare's Open Enrollment beginning October 15 and continuing until December 7th, the Association acknowledges an increase in the number of consumer inquiries.

Consumers on Medicare want information and many want to compare costs for Medicare Supplement insurance and Medicare Advantage plans the AAMSI director reports. "We started the online Find A Medicare Supplement agent directory because we simply could not handle the volume of calls, especially during Open Enrollment," Slome adds. "We'd like to see 100 more agents added to support this year's Open Enrollment."

While Medicare Supplement plans are standardized, the costs for identical plan letters can vary according to the 2016 Medigap Plan Price Index reported earlier this year by the Association. "People want the best information and the best coverage for the best cost," Slome notes. "They often want to speak or meet with someone who has their best interest in mind and that's a smart move."
