Riley Welch LaPorte & Associates Forensic Laboratories is pleased to announce the addition of Ms. Marie Durina as a Forensic Document Examiner with their firm. Ms. Durina is a highly qualified, ABFDE certified forensic document examiner with many years of experience. Ms. Durina will be based in North Carolina and serve that geographic area.
Asheville, NC, October 06, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Riley Welch LaPorte & Associates Forensic Laboratories is pleased to announce the addition of Ms. Marie Durina as a Forensic Document Examiner with their firm.
Ms. Marie Durina is a Forensic Document Examiner with over 26 years of experience in forensic science. She retired in 2015 from a government forensic laboratory, where she served as the Senior Forensic Document Examiner for the Questioned Documents Section, with oversight of the Questioned Document Examination services for the County of San Diego, CA. She graduated magna cum laude from Baruch College, CUNY, of New York, NY, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She also holds a Graduate Certificate of Academic Studies in the Examination of Questioned Documents from Oklahoma State University, and a Certificate of Achievement in Administration of Justice/Criminal Investigations from Miramar College in San Diego, CA. Ms. Durina completed her 3-year training program under the direct supervision of a highly qualified forensic document examiner. This training also included training by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
Ms. Durina is active in professional development activities, and regularly attends professional meetings, workshops, and paper presentations. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners (ASQDE), the American Academy of Forensic Science (AAFS) Questioned Document Section, and is a committee member of the Scientific Working Group for Forensic Document Examination (SWGDOC).
In 2008, Ms. Durina received certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners (ABFDE) which is the only certifying body sponsored by the Canadian Society of Forensic Science, the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners, the Southwestern Association of Forensic Document Examiners, and the Southeastern Association of Forensic Document Examiners, and also is recognized by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the International Association for Identification, the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists, and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Forensic Scientists. The ABFDE is the only certifying body that can claim such sponsorship and recognition.
In the past, Ms. Durina has served on the Board of Directors of ABFDE in the capacities of Chairperson of the Public Relations Committee, and as a member of the Recertification Committee. While Public Relations Chairperson, she developed and implemented the ABFDE’s Legal Library available to diplomates on the ABFDE website, and was a major contributor to the Forensic Document Examination section of the website.
Ms. Durina has conducted research and has given presentations on several forensic document topics and she has published several papers in forensic science journals. She was author of the chapter on Questioned Documents in the textbook “Practical Cold Case Homicide Investigations” by R. H. Walton published in 2014. Ms. Durina has been the principal trainer of two junior forensic document examiners at a government forensic laboratory and has overseen completion of each of those examiner’s 3-year training programs. Ms. Durina has also provided training classes to numerous law enforcement agencies and legal groups, has served as an Adjunct Professor at Miramar College in San Diego, CA, and has been a frequent guest lecturer at Evidence Technology classes at Grossmont College, El Cajon, CA.
