All-Star America’s Cup Yacht Racing Facility Fit Out by Specialist Supplier Direct Tool Company
Direct Tool Company chosen by prestigious America's Cup yacht racing team to supply, install and commission bespoke dust extraction and compressed air system.
Southampton, United Kingdom, October 12, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The grand, frantic facility is home to 4 impressive 45ft+ catamarans and a significant number of expert engineers and refinishing specialists; fine tuning and repairing their deadly racing weaponry. All this activity can heavily pollute the air with fine dust particles as common sanding, grinding and cutting tasks are carried out. Compliance with carbon fibre dusts was to prove crucial in successfully curtailing health hazards caused from such particles.
A thorough onsite consultation kicked off the project, leading to the drafting of plans and 3D CAD drawings. The end design incorporated innovative parallel pipework fittings for both the extraction piping and air hoses, resulting in a highly professional finish.
The world class racing boat engineering facility was effectively fit out with a bespoke dust extraction system providing 12 access points throughout the workshop. A variable speed rotary screw compressor was also installed along with 19 double air outlet terminals.
The DTC projects team sourced the appropriate equipment and managed the entire fit out from the planning stages right through to completion. The turnkey solution proved successful resulting in project completion on time and on budget.
“It’s a real pleasure to support such an exciting yacht racing team, the scale of the operation is just staggering and we couldn’t be happier with the way this installation project turned out,” said Rick Wakeford, Sales Director of Direct Tool Company. “Through working with a number of the teams this year we have put together a well-defined specialist range of refinishing consumables and our reliable service has proved invaluable to these fast paced, busy teams,” he added.

About the America’s Cup
First contested in 1851, the America’s Cup is the oldest trophy in international sport, predating the modern Olympic Games by 45 years, and is yachting’s biggest prize.
The trophy’s roots date back to when a syndicate of businessmen from New York sailed the schooner America across the Atlantic Ocean to represent the United States at the World’s Fair in England. The schooner won a race around the Isle of Wight and, with it, a trophy called the £100 Cup.
