Vocational Excellence at North Shropshire College
Oswestry, United Kingdom, October 13, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Oswestry Campus of North Shropshire College (NSC) is a vital part of the community offering courses both full and part-time to school leavers and adult learners. The College has been delivering vocational excellence for decades and has educated many generations within the town and surrounding areas. There are many success stories of students studying at the College and going on to prestigious Universities, Apprenticeships or into the Work Place. The College celebrates this success via Alumni groups and inviting in past students to inspire current students.
Jackie Doodson, Principal of NSC comments, "Our College is a College for the community; we ensure students get a fantastic experience here and nurture them to shape their future with us. Our staff are vocational specialists with expertise and experience in their subject area. Students go on to secure their first choice at good universities, go on to employment in their chosen field or start their own business."
The College continuously adapts and changes to meet the needs of local employers and prospective students, introducing curriculum that is both interesting and of vital importance to the local economy. Most recently the College has invested in Construction facilities which has led to a growth in students studying Plumbing, Bricklaying and Electrical Studies. New for September 2016, the College is working in partnership with Fusion Arts and The Centre, Oak Street to deliver Music Technology, a course that local prospective students asked for.
The Principal goes on to say, "Our achievement rates are excellent for vocational provision, we are thrilled our Level 3 core achievement rate is above the national average. The Department for Education 16-18 performance tables show that those learners who study a technical level qualification at NSC leave with an average point score of a Distinction. Our retention is also above the national rate, we pride ourselves in supporting students to thrive on programme, every student has a personal tutor to guide them on their learner journey with us."
In addition to supporting students with UCAS applications, giving careers advice and support with student life, the College also has a full time Sports Maker (College Sports Maker Project) who engages students in a wide variety of activities throughout the academic year from wheel chair basketball to female only fitness sessions.
The College has excellent links with industry and engages with local, national and international employers to give students and apprentices credible work experience opportunities both in this country and overseas. Jackie comments, "We have a dedicated Enterprise and Development Team who coordinate fantastic exchange trips and work experience for our students. Our students go out to many countries including New Zealand, Finland and France."
The College has open events coming up very soon, so to find out more about the courses and apprenticeships available, to meet the Principal and attend welcome talks, and to tour the facilities and speak to students and tutors, please come along.
