Central Presbyterian Church Announces Upcoming Four-Class Series on Transgender Studies

Atlanta, GA, October 16, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Central Presbyterian Church, an historic church located in downtown Atlanta, announces the upcoming four-class series titled, Pronouns, Potties, and People: Transgender Studies 101, facilitated by the Rev. Molly McGinnis.

The series will kick-off with a screening of the documentary Out of Order, on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Out of Order is a groundbreaking feature documentary revealing the complex and painful struggles faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) faith leaders as they confront entrenched bigotry and work to build loving support within their churches. The film follows the journeys of several Presbyterian Church (USA) ministers and people seeking ordination across the country.

Executive director of More Light Presbyterians and star of the film, Alex McNeil, will host a Q&A after the screening. This event is free and open to the public.

Out of Order was a feature film at this year’s Out on Film Festival, an annual Atlanta film festival dedicated to supporting the exhibition of LGBT film and video art forms, and one of the oldest LGBT film festivals in the country.

Pronouns, Potties, and People: Transgender Studies 101 will explore some basics about gender identity, dip into biblical and theological interpretations, and discuss current issues coming up in our legislative session. The class will be facilitated by the Rev. Molly McGinnis, and will include special guests from other faith communities.

Classes in the four-week series begin Sunday, Nov. 6 at 9:45 a.m. in the atrium of the Central Outreach & Advocacy Center located ground level of the Oglesby building at Central Presbyterian Church. The series continues every Sunday through Nov. 27. Classes are free and open to the public.

Free parking for the film screening and class is available in the parking garage of the Department of Public Safety located on Central Ave. adjacent to The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on the corner of Central Ave. and Martin Luther King Junior Dr.
