Fine Motor City a la MindBloom Preschool, Debuts at the National Building Museum Big Build Festival
MindBloom Preschool hosts unique interactive children's building stations at the National Building Museum Big Build festival on October 15, 2016 in Washington, DC.
Washington, DC, October 18, 2016 --(PR.com)-- It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and children of all ages were busy playing Engineer and Scientist using their hands to create a myriad of projects featuring simple, everyday materials found around most people’s homes.
The occasion was the Big Build festival at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC and the exhibit was entitled Fine Motor City, hosted by MindBloom Preschool. The school featured several work stations where children of all ages were donned in yellow construction hats, and encouraged to build towers, houses, and communities made out of sugar cubes, uncooked spaghetti, cardboard, and gumdrops, just to name some items.
Susan Acker, Director of MindBloom Preschool, explained there is a huge need for more attention to be paid to the fine motor skill development in children, as this skill is a precursor to early literacy. Ms. Acker noted how MindBloom Preschool specifically hones in on fine motor skill development in young children every day through the school’s STEM-based curriculum, inviting children to construct something with their hands daily and then send home their work at the end of the week to show parents what their children are doing inside the classroom.
According to Ms. Acker, “It is quite easy to inspire children to want to build things, as they are naturally drawn to toys such as blocks and Legos. However, the goal of Fine Motor City is to inspire children and families to think outside of the box about what kinds of materials can be used to urge their imaginations and ignite a passion for learning in a scientific way.”
In the coming months, MindBloom Preschool will host weekly workshops entitled Fine Motor City, for children between the ages of 3 and 10 years, which will incorporate a variety of materials and mediums into different aspects of play.
MindBloom Preschool is a language immersion preschool that teaches Mandarin Chinese and Spanish to children ages 2-5, as well as a classical curriculum that includes STEM and musical instruction in Piano.
