Idaho Democratic Senate Candidate Jerry Sturgill Raises $15K for Boise, Idaho’s Interfaith Sanctuary Homeless Shelter
Idaho Democratic senate candidate Jerry Sturgill raised $15,000 for Boise, Idaho’s Interfaith Sanctuary homeless shelter asking his political donors to contribute to the nonprofit in a bid to proactively support Boise's bid to eradicate chronic homelessness in the city.
Boise, ID, October 20, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Just weeks before the General Election, Democratic candidate for Senate Jerry Sturgill (Idaho) held a private campaign fundraiser at the home of Boise, Idaho businessman and education leader A.J. Balukoff. A charitable donation was made at Mr. Sturgill’s direction for $15,000 to benefit Boise, Idaho nonprofit Interfaith Sanctuary.
“My campaign is really a campaign for Idaho. While our federal government continues their circular discussions about how to help the homeless, nonprofits like the Interfaith Sanctuary, continue to pick up the ball. I was honored to help this phenomenal organization,” said Jerry Sturgill.
Matching donations were made to Interfaith Sanctuary by Mr. Balukoff and Albertsons' executive vice president Andy Scoggin. Mr. Scoggin is also a member of Interfaith Sanctuary’s board of directors.
“It’s was amazing to see the outpouring of support and enthusiasm,” said Jodi Peterson, Development Director for the Interfaith Sanctuary. “More importantly, it was refreshing to see a political candidate concerned with more than his own fundraising. These donations will make a huge difference in the lives of the homeless in our community.”
Interfaith Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization offering shelter services for men, women and children. The money raised will go towards the STEP Program where homeless community members work with intensive case management to identify goals that will successfully transition them out of homelessness.

About Interfaith Sanctuary's Step Program
Interfaith Sanctuary provides shelter, a warm meal and case management for up to 164 men, women and families with children each day.
In April 2016, Interfaith developed a new program to help serves their guests in a more meaningful way. The STEP (Shelter Transition Exit Plan) at Interfaith Sanctuary was created in response to the 89 guests who have been living at the shelter for over 5 years.
STEP addresses the issues that are causing this long term stay pattern. Case Managers assess each guest’s unique set of barriers to being a productive Boisian, and works with them to address and overcome them one step at a time. Our goal is to help them STEP out of our shelter successfully and permanently.
