The Sanneh Foundation Awarded $7,050 Grant for Rigamajig™ Play Equipment System from Target and National Non-Profit KaBOOM!
Target and national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded The Sanneh Foundation a $7,050 grant to use toward the purchase of a Rigamajig™ Play Equipment System at their Saint Paul-based Conway Community Center to increase access to unstructured, child-directed play.
St. Paul, MN, October 21, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Target and national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded The Sanneh Foundation a $7,050 grant to use toward the purchase of a Rigamajig™ Play Equipment System.
KaBOOM!, the national non-profit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve through play, is working with Target to increase access to play across the country. Grants for Rigamajig™ are helping to achieve that goal by bringing active play to more than 430,000 kids across the country.
Rigamajig™ is a new large-scale building kit designed by Cas Holman for hand-on free play and learning. This collection of wooden planks, wheels, pulleys, nuts, bolts and rope allows children to follow their curiosity through play. There are no right or wrong answers; the act of playing and building is the goal, not the finished product.
“The Sanneh Foundation’s goal at Conway Community Center and across all of our programs is to promote positive youth development,” said Tony Sanneh, The Sanneh Foundation’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “We are continuously searching for ways to increase opportunities for youth and equipment like the Rigamajig will give youth and staff at Conway new ways to explore the development of skills like collaboration and problem solving.”
In 2014 The Sanneh Foundation partnered with the City of Saint Paul to prevent the closure of the Conway Community Center by agreeing to operate and manage the community center on the city’s behalf. A major component of TSF’s goal at Conway is encouraging healthy physical activity through access to play in both organized and unstructured settings. Crucial to realizing this vision is designing safe and welcoming built environments that encourage maximum participation of youth from all racial and ethnic backgrounds, income levels and genders through partnerships with organizations like KaBOOM.
Unstructured, child-directed play has proven to help kids develop physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually, yet today’s kids have less time and fewer opportunities to play than any previous generation. The grant is part of Target’s ongoing efforts to help make wellness more affordable, accessible and inspirational for its team members, guests and communities.
