Santa Monica Playhouse Family Theatre Musical Matinee Series Presents Mary-Mary, Quite Contrary; Popular Production for Kids 2 to 102 Extended
You’re never too old to believe. A host of colorful storybook characters, unceremoniously plunked into 2008, confronts the miracles and mysteries of modern living as they try to convince a quirky Mary-Mary - so named by a mother who loved Mother Goose rhymes - that you’re never too old to believe in fairytales.
Santa Monica, CA, January 25, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Santa Monica Playhouse announced today that the inaugural show of the 2008 Santa Monica Playhouse Family Theatre Musical Matinee Series for Kids 2 to 102 will be the original Rudie-DeCarlo musical comedy adventure Mary-Mary, Quite Contrary which opened Saturday, January 12th, 2008 and has been extended through Sunday, April 6.
Are you too old to believe? A host of colorful storybook characters, unceremoniously plunked into 2008, confronts the miracles and mysteries of modern living as they try to convince a quirky Mary-Mary - so named by a mother who loved Mother Goose rhymes - that you’re never too old to believe in fairytales. Mary-Mary, Quite Contrary gives us a whole new perspective on fantasy and reality, sharing and caring, and the importance of family togetherness. Audience participation adds to the enjoyment. “This is a one hour family show that should not be missed!” exclaims L.A. Parent Magazine.
Written and directed by the creative team of Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie with bright fairytale costumes created by award-winning designer Ashley Hayes and lilting tunes by E. Rudie and Matthew Wrather, Mary-Mary features Actors’ Repertory Theatre members Celeste Akiki and John Waroff, Young Professionals’ Company members Leah Artenian and Alana Baum, and Kate Burleigh as “M. Goose.”
Now in its thirty-ninth year, Family Theatre at Santa Monica Playhouse is not “children’s theatre”, but, as its name implies, an experience meant to be shared by the whole family. Cutting across the imaginary generation gap, it provides shows that the entire family can enjoy. And for that special day, The Playhouse offers theatre birthday parties and theatre tea parties hosted by a costumed character and available in conjunction with every performance. These parties are an excellent way to introduce today's younger generations to the exciting world of live professional theatre.
Mary-Mary, Quite Contrary plays Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 and 3:00 p.m., from January 12th through April 6th, 2008. Tickets are $10.50 for children (12 and under), $12.50 for adults. For information, reservations, and party planning please call the Playhouse Box Office at 1-310-394-9779 ext. 2 or visit online at http//SantaMonicaPlayhouse.com.
Santa Monica Playhouse, now celebrating forty-eight years of continuous theatrical and educational service to the community, is located at 1211th Street (between Wilshire & Arizona) in the heart of Santa Monica’s Bayside District. Convenient Parking is located across the street. By public transportation: take the Santa Monica Blue Bus or the LA Metro Rapid #620 and exit at 4th and Wilshire.
