Career Step Donates to National Military Family Association for Every Referral in November
Career Step will donate $50 for each student referral in November to the National Military Family Association, earmarked for Operation PurpleĀ® Camp.
Lehi, UT, November 02, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and professional training, will donate $50 for each student referral that leads to enrollment in one of its career training programs during the month of November. This year will mark the fifth consecutive year that Career Step has donated to Operation Purple® Camp (OPC), a program run by the National Military Family Association (NMFA), in celebration of National Military Family Month.
“We are pleased to donate to Operation Purple and the National Military Family Association for the fifth year in a row,” said Steve Tober, Career Step President and CEO. “Career Step has a long history of supporting military families by offering portable training opportunities that transition into rewarding careers. Donating to Operation Purple Camp allows us to serve the children of military parents in a way that helps these children cope with the unique circumstances they face.”
The NMFA runs OPC as a way to address the challenges experienced by children of service members due to the realities of military life. Set up as a summer camp, OPC provides a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, hiking, canoeing and more, based on the location of the camp. These camps also provide opportunities for military children to connect with other children experiencing similar stressful situations. Operation Purple Camp has sent more than 58,000 military kids to this free camp experience since 2004.
When selecting participants, Operation Purple Camp gives special priority to military children who have a parent who is wounded, ill or injured as a result of their service as well as to children who have a parent who has deployed or will deploy within 15 months of their camp attendance. This past year OPC served 2,738 campers in 25 different locations. Of the campers, more than 41 percent had a parent who was wounded, ill or injured, and 53 percent had a parent deploy in the 15 months prior to their camp experience.
“Our students, graduates, and referrers will be excited knowing each referral this month has the potential to make an impact in the lives of military children and families,” said Vonda Andrews, Career Step Referral Program Manager. “We appreciate the role our referrers play in getting the word out about the education opportunities Career Step offers. Many of our referrers have close ties to the military, and we look forward to working with them every year as we give back to such a great cause.”
Career Step has trained more than 15,000 military spouses and service members over the years, and the school has been recognized as a Military Friendly School™ for six years in a row. In addition to being an original member of the Military Spouse Employment Program (MSEP), Career Step is also a MyCAA-approved school and offers quarterly scholarships for military spouses in partnership with the National Military Family Association.
