Author of Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape Donates to Immune Deficiency Foundation

Frederick, MD, November 03, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Miranda N. Prather, author of Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape, joined the Frederick, Maryland, Biomat USA in raising funds for the Immune Deficiency Foundation in the month of October. Prather currently serves as the Assistant Center Manager at the Frederick, Maryland, Biomat USA, a Grifols company that collects plasma donations. After donation, Grifols converts the plasma to life-saving medicines for a variety of patients, including those with primary immunodeficiency diseases. Prather donated 20% of all books sold during the month of October to the Immunodeficiency Foundation as part of their Think Zebra! campaign.

Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape, published by Shoofly View, tells the life story of a blue-collar racehorse who overcame a devastating illness to survive and inspire thousands around the globe who were facing their own struggles and illnesses. The book features playful writing and delightful pictures, by Kentucky artist Hayley Mullins, that bring the tale of Blue Blue Sea to life. Blue Blue Sea was no American Pharoah, but he became a hero just the same.

Miranda N. Prather was born in Texas and grew up in Mississippi, Louisiana and Kentucky. The first horse she recalls following was Seattle Slew, who was born the same year she was, but it was Alydar that was her first horse racing love (and Blue Blue Sea’s great-grandsire). During her time in Kentucky, she took horseback riding lessons and owned an off-track Thoroughbred named Beble.

The Immune Deficiency Foundation is the national patient organization dedicated to improving the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life of persons with primary immunodeficiency diseases through advocacy, education and research. The foundation says, “THINK ZEBRA!” This refers to an old medical saying: “when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras” and are taught to focus on the likeliest possibilities when making a diagnosis, not the unusual ones. Indeed, those with primary immunodeficiency diseases are the zebras of the medical world.

In late 2015, they published Blue Blue Sea Finds His Cape, their first book. They are currently looking at other book projects and plan an online journal to highlight the best in writing, art and photography.
