The Pax Center Joins the Global #GivingTuesday Movement with a Pledge to Fight Hunger and Combat Loneliness in LaPorte County
LaPorte, IN, November 04, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Pax Center has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) following the widely recognized shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
The Pax Center has joined #GivingTuesday to raise funds and awareness for the issues of poverty, loneliness, and hunger impacting LaPorte County. Since January 2015, the Pax Center has fed thousands of LaPorte County residents and provided environments of inclusion and education to help those struggling with difficult life circumstances. Food insecurity in LaPorte County is a problem, but one that can be remedied with committed and generous community partners.
“There are people in our community struggling with food insecurity, poverty, and loneliness. LaPorte County is a generous and compassionate community that consistently engages where help is needed. This radically generous spirit and support has enabled us to continuing doing what we do for the common good of our neighborhoods and community,” said Chief Peace Officer and President Nate Loucks.
Last year, the Pax Center was able to raise over $15,000 in their first #GivingTuesday experience. Over one hundred individual donations were made. The goal for 2016 is $20,000. Donations will be able to be made online, in person, or through the mail. #GivingTuesday is the largest and farthest reaching fundraiser of the year for the Pax Center. These donations will be used to further the work of the weekly food pantries, community meals, clothes closet, and the Jackson Street Community Garden.
