Meals On Wheels of Tampa to Raise Funds for fresh Produce on Wheels deliveries this #GivingTuesday, a National Day of Giving
Meals On Wheels of Tampa (MOWTampa) goal of $3,000 on #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29, to raise funds for fresh weekend produce deliveries.
Tampa, FL, November 20, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Meals On Wheels of Tampa (MOWTampa) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
“Meals On Wheels is excited to take part in this special day!” said Steve King, Executive Director. “Our goal this year is to raise $3,000 to support our mission of providing nourishing food to our elderly and homebound neighbors, through the Produce On Wheels program. This special program allows our neighbors to remain nourished, and cared for, while living independently in their own homes.”
Last year, MOWTampa developed a new program called Produce On Wheels (POW!) in response to the expressed request from Recipients for increased access to fruits and vegetables. POW! offers all 700+ recipients the delivery of a free bag of fresh produce taken to their homes on one Saturday of each month. Recipients love the new program, as demonstrated by testimonials and letters received after each delivery. MOWTampa has successfully demonstrated an outcome of increased servings of daily fruit and vegetable intake, with help from the University of South Florida’s College of Public Health.
Each POW! delivery costs approximately $1,000. Come together this #GivingTuesday to raise funds for 3 additional POW! deliveries, including operational costs, to help MOWTampa reach their goal of $3,000.
Donations will be accepted on MOWTampa’s website at www.MOWTampa.org, and the public is invited to visit MOWTampa (550 W. Hillsborough Ave. Tampa, FL 33603) on November 29th to try our food and for a tour of the kitchen and facility to see firsthand how their contributions benefit this mission and programs, while impacting the community.
With the support of their community partners this #GivingTuesday, they can provide fresh produce to all 700 homebound and senior meal recipients one Saturday each month. These Saturday morning deliveries of fresh fruit and vegetables have been a huge success.
They are calling on you, on Tuesday, November 29th, on this national day of giving, to bring smiles to those in need in your community by donating to Meals On Wheels of Tampa by visiting www.MOWTampa.org or by calling 813-238-8410.
