Delta Dental of North Carolina Donates 2,000 Toothbrushes to Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education to Benefit North Carolina Youth
Local Organizations Join Together to Support Oral Health Education
Raleigh, NC, November 23, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education received a donation of 2,000 toothbrushes from Delta Dental of North Carolina at their “Super Smiles” oral health education session. During the program, 50 first graders from Grace Christian School learned about oral health and hygiene, and each student received a toothbrush to take home and practice brushing techniques.
The Delta Dental donation was part of a toothbrush drive held by the Poe Center, which brought the total number of toothbrushes collected to 3,500. The Poe Center and Delta Dental of North Carolina have partnered together in the past with the common goal of furthering oral health education. These partnerships have included awarding the Poe Center funds from the #SmilesForKidsNC challenge and sponsoring its Dental Theatre. Through its innovative oral health teaching theatre, including Mr. Big Mouth and Sugar Bugs, the Poe Center will continue to distribute the donated toothbrushes to participants during future sessions.
“Delta Dental’s generous donation of toothbrushes will enable 2,000 children to apply the oral health lessons they’ve learned at the Poe Center,” said Chelsea Kolander, Health Educator at the Poe Center. “It’s because of organizations like Delta Dental that we are able to continue health initiatives that will shape the lives of our youth.”
“We know that one in three students in North Carolina miss school due to oral health issues. Teaching children early how to take care of their teeth is important not just for their health but also for their education,” said Curt Ladig, President and CEO of Delta Dental of North Carolina. “We’re honored to support the Poe Center in their toothbrush drive as they work to improve the oral health of children in communities throughout our state.”
