Keep Irving Beautiful Celebrates America Recycles Day with Irving Family YMCA
Irving, TX, November 23, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) joined forces with the Irving Family YMCA Seniors Group for America Recycles Day. Starting in October, seniors collected recyclable materials and brought them to the YMCA in blue bags supplied by KIB. KIB staff weighed and recorded the bags each week, and by November 16, they had collected a total of 800 pounds. Solid Waste Services helped in the diversion of these materials from the landfill to a recycling facility.
KIB Board and staff members honored the seniors on Friday, November 17, with approximately 20 in attendance, to thank them for their efforts.
KIB Board Member Rachel Moon commented on the occasion by saying, “We have been working with the Irving Family YMCA seniors for our America Recycles Day project for the past six years. They have really embraced it and made this event something to look forward to each year. It’s impressive how much they collect, but they also encourage others to recycle, whether they are fellow YMCA members or people in their neighborhood. We enjoy celebrating with them and recognizing their efforts.”
America Recycles Day is a Keep America Beautiful (KAB) program dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. The official day is November 15, and thousands of events take place across the country during November with a focus on increasing recycling in communities. More than 65,000 people took the recycling pledge to reduce waste, recycle more, and encourage others to recycle.
