Keep Irving Beautiful Attends Unite for Troops Event
Irving, TX, November 24, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB), attended the annual “Unite for Troops” event at Porter’s Army Navy on Saturday, November 12. KIB made this a “Green Event” by providing the recycling stations throughout the grounds and encouraging attendees to dispose of waste in the proper receptacles. They also had a booth, which included information about KIB programs and a prize wheel visitors to the table could spin and then answer a question related to recycling or conservation. Prizes were recycled books generously donated by the Friends of the Irving Public Library. North Lake College Phi Theta Kappa students assisted KIB. Students also had a neighboring table where they demonstrated solar ovens.
Unite for Troops is a Veterans Day celebration, which benefits deployed troops around the world as well as the DFW Airport USO. Volunteers packed boxes with donated items to send to troops, such as snack foods, batteries, and toiletries, while being entertained by live musical acts throughout the day. Attendees could enjoy a variety of activities, including a petting zoo, reptile exhibit and several craft tables.
KIB Board Member Arnold Martin commented on the day by saying, “KIB is proud to attend this event each year. It is a great family-friendly activity that is fun for all ages, and honors both the veterans and the troops who are currently serving.”
