Prism Energy Services Helps Unitarian Universalist Service Committee Strive for LEED Platinum
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), a non-profit organization that promotes human rights and social justice worldwide, upgraded its Cambridge headquarters to more energy efficient lighting and mechanical equipment in an effort to become LEED Platinum. UUSC is expected to save 116,349 kWh and $20,574.21 in energy costs annually.
Quincy, MA, November 29, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Prism Energy Services has worked on an ambitious project with Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) to upgrade its existing building in Cambridge, MA (built in 1904) to achieve LEED Platinum Certification. During the time of installation, only 182 projects in the United States, and only 249 projects worldwide, were certified platinum from work on existing buildings.
Prism Energy Services proposed both custom lighting, lighting controls, and non-lighting measures, including a Green Kiosk. The building’s prior existing lighting fixtures, comprised of an assortment of LEDs, CFLs, and T-8s, were upgraded to LEDs with sensors, where applicable. Prism Energy Services also installed controls and variable frequency drives (VFDs) on the make-up air unit (MAU); VFDs on two 7.5 HP hot water pumps; VFDs on the 15 HP fan on the cooling tower; and a building automation system (BMS) to control the building's heat pumps, hot water condensing boilers, hydronic pumps, cooling tower, MAU, and rooftop unit (RTU). Furthermore, Prism commissioned the VFDs and controls and conducted an ASHRAE Level 2 audit for LEED requirement and scoring purposes.
“It has been a pleasure working with Prism. They have been a great partner in helping us create an energy strategy for achieving LEED certification,” said Ethan Adams, Facility and Operations Manager. “From start to finish, they worked with us closely to develop a customized solution that helped us move forward.”
A Green Kiosk, which was installed on the ground floor of the building, will allow UUSC’s Facility and Operations Manager to monitor real-time data and benchmarks related to the facility’s energy consumption, as well as allow guests and other employees to view building's energy data.
