The New Era After Erté's Posthumous Honor
Costa Mesa, CA, December 05, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Martin Lawrence Galleries (MLG) South Coast highlights Erté’s artwork after he was posthumously honored in June 2016 with a major exhibition at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. This exhibition re-introduces his unique pieces into a third revival era that is current in the United States ever since Erté brought back Art Deco at age 75.
Erté (d. 1990), also known as Romain de Tirtoff, was born in Russia in 1892, worked as an fashion apprentice in France and moved to New York to illustrate the 1915 cover of Harper’s Bazaar for the next 22 years. He created designs for costumes and theatre productions in Hollywood as well as illustrated on paper with intricate linear designs and flowing curves. “Art Deco, of course, is the confluence of cubism and art nouveau,” said Erté (Romain de Tirtoff), Artist.
The public art reception will take place Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 6PM – 9PM. MLG South Coast is located at 3333 Bear Street, Suite 202, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
“Erté worked and lived in California in 1925 to design the sets and costumes for MGM. He has been in collections of many of our respected art collectors from New York to Los Angeles, including the honorable Barbara Streisand. Ever since 1975, we have been committed to offering the finest quality artworks and superior value from the greatest names,” said Kenneth W. Lawrence, Gallery Director.
Martin Lawrence Galleries is Orange County’s premier Gallery of Fine Art in South Coast Plaza. The business specializes in original paintings, sculptures, and limited editions by Erté, Warhol, Picasso, Chagall, & many others.
