Career Step Donates $15,000 to Special Olympics Thanks to Employee Wellness Efforts
Career Step is pleased to announce its $15,000 donation to Special Olympics as a culmination of employee efforts to be active.
Lehi, UT, December 21, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, is pleased to announce that it has donated $15,000 to Special Olympics as a result of employees’ efforts to be active and participate in the company’s wellness initiatives. Employees logged miles as they walked, biked or ran during the company’s twice-a-month Workout Wednesday (WoW!) events, and Career Step matched the miles with a company donation for the third year in a row.
“Workout Wednesday is a favorite program because it combines so many parts of the Career Step culture,” said Steve Tober, Career Step President and CEO. “Our amazing employees get the chance to give back to the community while they strengthen bonds with their teammates enjoying recreation and improving their health in this beautiful state of Utah. It is always exciting and inspiring to see how enthusiastic everyone is about the program and how it leads to a meaningful donation for the Special Olympics.”
The Career Step WoW! Program, which was instituted in 2013, is held at least one Wednesday each month throughout the year, or two when weather permits. Employees are encouraged to get out of the office during warmer months and walk, run or bike with their co-workers. Most employees participate on their lunch hour and then enjoy a company-sponsored lunch afterward. The mileage employees report then translates to a certain dollar amount the company donates to the Special Olympics. In 2016, the Career Step team put in approximately 1,500 miles.
This is Career Step’s third year partnering with the Special Olympics. In addition to financial donations through the WoW! program, Career Step employees also gave of their time, volunteering at several Special Olympics events throughout the year.
“At Career Step, we focus on improving the lives of our students, our employees and those in the community,” said Allen Miller, Career Step Vice President of People Strategy. “Workout Wednesday! gives us the opportunity to live that mission, enjoying time together as a team in a way that also benefits others. Our employees love working with the Special Olympics, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with them. We look forward to another vibrant, healthy year of employee wellness and community service in 2017.”
