Quincy Youth Hockey Arena Lights Up the Ice with New LEDs
Prism Energy Services and LaMar Lighting helped Quincy Youth Hockey, a year-round youth hockey arena based in Quincy, MA, retrofit its arena with LED lighting. The arena that is a home to a variety of hockey programs for children all over the South Shore had not changed its lighting in over five years. The arena is expected to reduce its energy consumption by 140,750 kWh and save $11,000 on its energy bills every year.
Quincy, MA, December 22, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Prism Energy Services, working with LaMar Lighting, upgraded the Quincy Youth Hockey (QYH) Arena to more energy efficient and cost-effective LED lighting. QYH’s facilities manager sought to improve the lighting quality throughout the arena, especially over the main ice. The arena was previously equipped with a mix of T12 and T8 fixtures, and T5 high bays over the main ice. Prism Energy Services conducted a site evaluation, examining over 200 interior and exterior lighting fixtures and identified cost-effective lighting solutions for the entire facility.
Over the main ice, LaMar Lighting retrofitted HBL3 LED high bay luminaires, which are well-suited for cool-to-cold environments. Constructed of a fully enclosed, heavy-duty extruded aluminum chassis, the HBL3 LEDs have superior thermal control and durability and are operable in temperatures as low as -30°, at 227V. They deliver almost 17,000 lumens, consume only 152W, and are half the width of the previous luminaries, adding a modern, sleek look to the arena. By comparison, the previous luminaires consumed 702W per fixture.
Prism Energy Services helped Quincy Youth Hockey receive over $21,000 in utility incentives from National Grid. The arena is expected to reduce its energy consumption by over 140,000 kWh and save $11,000 on its energy bills every year. The company is expected to have an ROI of 59% after it becomes cash flow positive in only 1.5 years.
