Dairy Milks the Benefits of New Shrinkwrapping Machine

Dewsbury, United Kingdom, January 30, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Yorkshire Packaging Systems Ltd (YPS), the UK’s leading supplier of shrink wrapping machines and equipment, has recently helped Cotteswold Dairies increase productivity.

As part of its major expansion and efficiency programme, the Gloucestershire-based dairy was looking to increase the speed and efficiency of its milk packaging process.

To achieve the output desired, YPS has installed a heavy duty shrink wrapping machine, known as the SS200, at Cotteswold Dairies. Manufactured by YPS, the SS200 is capable of shrinkwrapping a staggering 200 litres of milk per minute in a variety of pack sizes and collations. The most popular milk packaging collation being two litres in a 3x2 format, at a rate of up to twenty packs per minute.

The SS200 is a side feed shrinkwrapper, which is manufactured from stainless steel to meet the stringent hygiene standards required in the milk packaging industry.

George Workman, director Cotteswold Dairies commented:
“YPS was the logical choice because they were the most attentive to detail, the easiest to deal with and, crucially for me, they manufacture the equipment in the UK, with the backing and support this implies. The equipment was delivered and in full production within 48 hours.”

Currently celebrating 30 years of trading, YPS has transformed the milk packaging process with the introduction of the SS200.

Traditionally milk packaging machines are fed through a single lane infeed, relying on two pushes to every jaw cycle to achieve the desired collation of 2x3. The SS200 shrink wrapper however, achieves its incredible speed through the use of a specially designed diverter system installed on the infeed.

The diverter system is used to keep two lanes continually filled, meaning that the shrink wrapping machine itself does not need to collate the pack and only one push is required for every jaw cycle. This significantly increases the throughput of the shrinkwrapping machine.

The SS200 has also drastically reduced changeover times thanks to a series of innovative improvements - with regards to change parts for different pack sizes and collations - incorporated into the machine.

Dave Wood, senior sales engineer, YPS, explained:
“Milk packaging demands highly specified shrink wrapping machinery. Being able to design and manufacture the equipment ourselves, combined with 30 years’ experience, means we can be sure that the specification required is correct. We fought off some strong competition, but our specification of equipment and proven track record came through.”
