Interstate Container Highlights Coated, Wax-Free Produce Boxes at the 2017 Southeast Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference
Interstate Container, creator of Greencoat® wax-free boxes, will discuss transitioning to sustainable packaging at Booth #437/439 during the 2017 SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference, January 6-7, at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Georgia.
Columbia, SC, December 29, 2016 --(PR.com)-- With foodservice distributors, supermarkets, and restaurant chains mandating a shift to sustainable packaging, Interstate Container works Hand-in-Hand with growers and packers to transition from wax to wax-free coated Greencoat® produce boxes. During the SE Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference, Interstate Container will display a range of samples of the Fibre Box Association (FBA) certified recyclable and repulpable boxes at Booth # 437/439.
Strong Boxes that Perform
Greencoat® corrugated boxes are a unique solution for the produce industry as they are coated, strong and also 100% recyclable. Interstate Container is the only company that offers a coated, recyclable option that can endure the rigors of packing, cooling and long distance refrigerated shipping, mirroring the performance of wax coated boxes. Interstate Container currently ships over 8 million Greencoat boxes monthly from facilities in Cambridge, MD and Columbia, SC, as well as warehouses throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southern US.
Reduced Packaging Costs
Greencoat® boxes cost less than traditional wax cascaded boxes, offering farmers savings combined with a product that works. The administration burden, damage back charges and supply concerns associated with reusable plastic containers (RPCs) are also eliminated with Greencoat. In addition, the end user can recycle the box instead of paying wax disposal fees of up to $50-70/ton, and instead generate a steady revenue stream of $70-100/ton.
Lower Carbon Footprint
Unlike wax boxes, which cannot be recycled, Greencoat® boxes are FBA-certified 100% recyclable and repulpable. Recycling 100 tons of Greencoat boxes saves 1,527 million BTUs, as well as decreases greenhouse gas emissions by 312 tons of MTCO2E and 85 tons of MTCE.
During the SE Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference 2017, growers and packers can schedule Greencoat trials alongside current packaging to test and compare strength and performance. In addition to double wall cabbage boxes in 10lb, 25lb, and 50lb sizes, Interstate Container produces ½ bushel, ¾ bushel, 1 1/9 bushel, green bean and many other produce packing options.
