Provo, UT, January 20, 2017 --(PR.com)-- A husband/wife team who operate a small board game company out of Provo, Utah just hit the jackpot again. The board game jackpot.
Facade Games, owned by Travis & Holly Hancock, just launched its second board game on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter. In just 24 hours the game, called Tortuga 1667, raised over $60,000. And this is only day 1. The campaign lasts until February 16th. Backers from nearly 50 countries have contributed to the campaign, each anxious to get their hands on the game and turn game night into an evening of mutiny, plunder, and deceit.
Tortuga 1667 takes players into the world of the shifting alliances and politics of piracy in the Caribbean. Players, each with a secret loyalty to the British or the French, must work together to steal treasure from the Spanish. However, players must also guard against back-stabbing crewmates who are anxious to to keep all of the treasure for themselves.
A big selling point of the game is that it is packaged inside of a fake book, easy for disguising in a bookshelf instead of a game closet. The game’s playing board is also unique in that it is made out of rubber and rolls up just like a treasure map. The game also includes 70 cards, 9 wooden pawns, 8 wooden treasures, and 1 burlap bag to hold the pieces.
This isn’t the first successful game that the Hancock couple has launched. In April of 2015 they raised over $100,000 with their first game called Salem. Salem has now sold over 10,000 copies and is in game stores and homes all around the world.
Travis is in charge of the business operations for the company, and is the primary designer of the game’s rules. Holly handles the graphic design and much of the social media for the company. For both games, illustrator Sarah Keele has provided the stunning artwork.
With 29 more days of funding, the sky is the limit for Travis and Holly’s new game in terms of the funding it could receive. Already a successful project, the game will be released to Kickstarter backers and then to the public in August of this year.
