James C. Bly, Jr., the Founder, Chairman & CEO of HWSC explained, “Since 1982, HWSC has existed for one fundamental reason, we are passionate about the important purpose, role and value that business owning families bring to our economy and society.” In celebrating 35 years, Bly remembers the generations of family businesses that have grown with HWSC. “I wish to thank our clients for the opportunity they have given us to serve them,” he commented.
“Most of our client-owned businesses are located in smaller cities, towns and rural areas. When they are growing and profitable, the owners tend to operate their businesses with a purpose beyond profit,” Bly further explained. He went on to say that such businesses., “Are good employers, supportive of employees and their families, and dedicated to their local economies and communities. We believe that such locally owned, privately held, growing and profitable companies are important contributors to the betterment of their regions.”
HWSC started with a vision to become highly competent in delivering a range of services to support the long-term ownership of family businesses. HWSC has purposefully built its practice to provide both advisory and implementation capabilities on matters related to Business Growth, Company Capitalization, Generational Transition, and Shareholder Liquidity.
HWSC has successfully served over 350 family controlled businesses, family business holding companies, or businesses owned by family offices. We have helped our clients develop and implement business growth plans; secure growth capital for their businesses while maintaining family control; successfully transition ownership, governance and management to future generations; and obtain liquidity, when necessary, for their shareholders.
With a foundation built over 35 years, HWSC is well positioned for the future. During the past five years, HWSC has implemented four initiatives to prepare for the future: (i) developed a more robust range of capabilities by expanding senior and junior professional teams; (ii) improved internal business governance and succession management plans; (iii) invested in the expansion of the firm’s proprietary research and analytical capabilities, and tools and methodologies; (iv) and increased its geographic footprint both directly and through HWSC’s subsidiary, Business Growth Alliance (BGA), and its strong affiliate network.
In 2017, HWSC plans to announce its new international advisory board and an expanded range of direct investment services. HWSC’s website and branding updates will reflect the firm’s values, vision and positioning for the future.
