Thurm and Blais to Serve as Key Leaders on Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Expansion.
New York, NY, February 03, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Lehrer, LLC is pleased to announce two new team members; David Thurm, Executive Vice President and Douglas Blais, Senior Project Manager. Both will hold leadership positions within the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center expansion project, on which Lehrer, LLC is a member of the team providing Project Management services to the New York Convention Center Development Corporation (NYCCDC), a subsidiary of the New York State Empire State Development.
Thurm brings to Lehrer, LLC more than 25 years of extensive experience in managing complex projects across a variety of building types. As Project Director of the Javits Center expansion, Thurm will apply his focus on innovation, budget controls, time controls and management expertise to the multi-faceted expansion. He will drive the construction of the project through all phases; including planning, execution and completion.
Blais, applying knowledge from leading several large, high-profile and complex projects in New York City, will serve as the Commercial Manager. He will act as the NYCCDC representative for activities related to financial and contractual delivery of the Javits Center expansion; specifically, such matters as planning and management of contracts, costs and schedules.
“We are thrilled to have both David and Doug join Lehrer, LLC on the world-class project at the Jacob K. Javits Center,” said Peter M. Lehrer, Chairman and CEO of Lehrer, LLC and a member of the Corporate Advisory Team to NYCCDC on the Javits Center project. “David has a strong reputation and a proven ability to manage large-scale projects while strictly meeting budget and schedule, and as such, he is poised to lead the Javits Center expansion team over the next several years.”
“Doug’s experience in providing strategic guidance for public-sector development programs in New York City positions him to once again drive forward a major expansion at the Javits Center, and we welcome him to Lehrer, LLC,” added Norbert Young, Executive Vice President of Lehrer, LLC and a member of the Technical Compliance team on the Javits Center expansion.
An accomplished senior executive, Thurm has broad experience in leading transformative change in complex organizations, and a robust resume of management at large organizations and institutions. As Chief Operating Officer, he most recently oversaw all operational aspects of the Art Institute of Chicago, including Facilities and Design & Construction. Thurm also served in numerous leadership roles at the New York Times, including Senior Vice President for Operations, Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Real Estate Development; during his tenure at the Times he was the lead executive overseeing construction of the 52-story headquarters and the state-of-the-art printing plant. Thurm holds an A.B. from Harvard College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
“The world of construction has become increasingly complex. The old ways of working are simply no longer sufficient,” said Thurm. “I’m excited to work with Peter and the Lehrer team in developing innovative approaches that generate successful projects. It is particularly rewarding to be working on the expansion of the Javits Center since this is a critical project for New York State and New York City. It will be gratifying to work with the talented team that will make this project a reality.”
Prior to joining Lehrer, LLC, Blais coordinated and implemented capital projects at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s World Trade Center Construction Department. He also worked on several notable projects including the Hudson Yards development, 7-line subway extension, the Javits Center expansion, and lower Manhattan rebuilding efforts in 2003-2006 as part of the New York State Executive Chamber, collaborating with federal, state and local officials to develop and support the State’s infrastructure priorities in New York City. Blais holds a B.A. from The University of Richmond.
“I am excited to return to the Javits Center and look forward to helping the State achieve its signature project on Manhattan’s west side, which will stimulate the economy throughout the region,” said Blais. “This dramatic and much-needed expansion of the convention center will transform the already active facility into an unparalleled world-class venue for generations to come.”
