Free Wheelchair Mission Names New Executive Director
Irvine, CA, February 07, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Nuka Solomon has been named Executive Director for Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM), a world leader in mobility solutions for people with disabilities in developing countries. She will report to President and Founder, Dr. Don Schoendorfer.
Solomon comes to Free Wheelchair Mission from United Way of Greater Los Angeles, where she had served since 2013. During her time at United Way, Solomon worked as Director of Shared Services, Development Operations and as Director of Major Gifts. She also brings experience in the medical industry, having served as a board member for Brighteyes – supporting the Vision Center of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles – and The Luminaries, Juniors – benefiting the Doheny Eye Institute.
Solomon has organized free vision screening clinics for low-income families, chaired annual benefit auctions, and has overseen the execution of annual strategic account planning for campaigns generating over $30 million in revenue.
“I am thrilled to welcome Nuka Solomon to our team. Her background in both the nonprofit sector and the medical industry make her uniquely suited to help lead our organization,” said Dr. Don Schoendorfer. “I look forward to working with her to bring the transforming gift of mobility to millions of people with disabilities around the world.”
Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed more than 970,000 wheelchairs at no cost to people with disabilities in developing nations since 2001. Over 100 million people worldwide are in dire need of a wheelchair, yet most do not have the resources to obtain one. The need for wheelchairs is growing due to aging populations, natural disasters, traffic accidents, and political unrest. FWM is on a mission to distribute 1 million wheelchairs by Summer 2017.
