First Open Source Android Launcher Written in Scala Released
9 Cards is the first open source Android launcher designed for developers written in Scala on Android that adapts to your daily routine.
Seattle, WA, February 11, 2017 --(PR.com)-- 47 Degrees, a functional programming consultancy, has released the first open source Android launcher written in the Scala programming language. 9 Cards is a fully integrated home launcher that intelligently adapts to your daily routine using Collections and Moments that’s built for and by developers.
The first iteration of 9 Cards was released in 2014 and quickly ramped up to over 250,000 users. While the app was well-received, a common request was to create the functionality for the application to take the place of users’ default launchers. That’s just one of the features you’ll find in this latest release.
9 Cards intelligently categorizes your apps into smart collections that you can navigate with simple gestures. Using a unique hierarchical interface, app categories will activate based on your daily routine and the places you visit. Whether you’re at work, home, or commuting, 9 Cards puts the apps you need at your fingertips.
Designed to enhance productivity and user experience, integrated sharing component, you can explore different Collections created and shared by other users and discover new ways to use your smartphone.
“9 Cards was created as a love letter to the functional programming community,” says Javi Pacheco, Project lead engineer. “We chose to make the application open source so we could showcase the power of Scala on Android, and we hope by doing so, the community joins us in expanding and improving this project.”
47 Degrees firmly believes in creating and fostering open source projects for the benefit of the programming community. It’s not only a way to improve projects, but also a learning tool for others in the field. 9 Cards departs from the available imperative Android SDK and instead focuses on a functional architecture using a variety of popular libraries from the Scala community.
9 Cards is available for download from Google Play for free and is built exclusively for Android.
