Tech901 Launches the Code 1.0 Program to Train Entry-Level Software Developers
Successful grads will be offered paid apprenticeship positions with ServiceMaster, the anchor sponsoring employer, and other participating local companies.
Memphis, TN, March 14, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Tech901 is launching Code 1.0, a new workforce development program for entry-level software developers that Memphis-area employers need. Code.org reports that there are currently over 6,000 open computing jobs in Tennessee with an industry average salary of $74,000.
The Tech901 Code 1.0 offering will provide nationally-recognized Harvard CS50x computer science curriculum coupled with paid industry apprenticeships to prepare Memphians to join area software development teams. Applicants are not required to have programming experience but must pass the Tech901 Navigator coding aptitude assessment, successfully complete a programming tutorial exercise and pay a very affordable $250 tuition. The first class will begin April 24, 2017. More information is available at info.tech901.org/coding.
“This is a great opportunity to help build the IT talent pipeline in Memphis and prepare people to meet the critical tech needs of local businesses,” said Jamie Smith, ServiceMaster chief information officer. “Programs like this help individuals hone their skills, gain real-world experience and position themselves to succeed in the jobs that are most in demand. At the same time, this program helps to position Memphis – and technology – focused companies like ServiceMaster – as a career destination for those interested in technology careers.”
Harvard CS50x Course
The Tech901 Code 1.0 program will center on the Harvard CS50x computer science course curriculum. Code 1.0 students will be registered with Harvardx, the on-line extension campus, monitored and successful graduates will receive a Harvardx certificate. Tech901 will facilitate the on-line computer science lectures two nights a week for the 14-week course and industry mentors will lead the weekly coding lab around a broad set of programming environments.
Coding Apprenticeship
Successful Harvard CS50x graduates will be offered paid apprenticeship positions with ServiceMaster, the anchor sponsoring employer, and other participating local companies. The apprenticeship will include a short-term intensive training on area best practices, employer-selected tools and workplace soft skills followed by a three-month paid development internship.
