McConnell Students Run Laps for Laptops

Hixson, TN, March 30, 2017 --(PR.com)-- McConnell elementary school is gearing up for a good, sweaty time this week. The students at McConnell are revved up and ready to run in the upcoming Mustang Stampede. The Stampede is a running event at the school where students collects pledges and then runs as many laps as possible in order to raise money for the school. The McConnell PTA, who is hosting the event for the students, believes that events like these hold a special place in the school. Rebecca Marshall, President of the McConnell PTA said, "As a society we are seeing a reduction in physical activity and an increase in rise of illness due to lack of physical activity. This event allows the child not just to sell another item to raise money for extra school funding, but allows each child the opportunity to engage in an extra physical activity the day of the event. The children push hard each year to surpass their own laps from previous years. They are gaining not only physical activity but self confidence. The McConnell PTA sees this as a win for our children." Instead of asking parents to sell more items to help fund the necessary technology in the school, the PTA wants to give kids something fun to look forward to, a way to focus on something positive, and turn what has become a necessary part of every school, fundraising, into an exciting event. The kids look forward to their run time, too, with medals being given out for the boy and girl in each grade who can run the most laps.

The community has come together to help support this amazing event as well. Several local companies are sponsoring the event including Mathnasium, Chickamauga Hydro Dam, All Season Lawn Care, BiaBas, Middle Valley Animal, Green Aire, Standifer Orthodontics, LulaRoe Taylor Sulllivan, and First Bank Mortgage. Donations have also been made by the Northgate Carmike Theater.

Even though the kids at McConnell will be having a great time outside, they are running for a cause. This event will help fund additional technology at the school, something the school is in great need of. Parents, students, and the local businesses are coming together through events like this to meet the needs in our schools today. The McConnell PTA would like to invite the entire community to support the event, students, and the school to ensure success for all.

Stampede Information
The Mustang Stampede will be held March 31, 2017 from 8:30am-3:pm during the school day. All proceeds will go to benefit technology improvements at McConnell Elementary. Anyone who would support the event may contact the McConnell PTA.
