In FY 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) began a nationwide pilot implementation of its MDS Focused Surveys and found that approximately 45% of nursing home citations were related to the MDS. Achieving MDS accuracy is important to ensure you are properly assessing a resident’s functional needs and health conditions. Inaccuracies can lead to survey deficiencies, governmental audits and inquiries—potentially resulting in your facility being flagged for unnecessary medical services or not appropriately being reimbursed for services delivered.
