Keep Irving Beautiful Works with Youth and Faith Groups in Blanket Project - “No-Sew” Blankets Made and Donated to Charities Blanket Project
Irving, TX, April 05, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) is fortunate to work with many volunteers who enjoy doing whatever they can to make a positive difference in their community, whether that is participating in a cleanup or park beautification project, or in a recent addition to KIB’s programs – making “no-sew” blankets. KIB provides the fleece material, and the volunteers do the rest by cutting strips along the sides and joining two pieces of material together to make either a full-size adult blanket or half-size baby blanket.
Irving-based Girl Scout Troops were anxious to become involved in this project. GSA Troop 2871 started with making a blanket which they presented to the pastor of the church where they meet, Holy Trinity Lutheran, followed by making four baby blankets which will be donated to the Baptist Benevolent Ministries of Irving (BBMOI), as will the two made by GSA Troop 6458. Members of the Iglesia Apostoles y Profetas church made one adult and two baby blankets, also to be donated to BBMOI. So far in 2017, the blanket projects have resulted in 24 volunteers giving 36 hours of service in making a total of ten blankets.
This project began last summer with the Total Youth Ministry group from Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, who helped members of Emma’s House make three blankets during a visit last summer, followed by the Young Men Service League of Cistercian Preparatory School, where the boys and their mothers worked together in making twelve blankets.
“These scout troops and church members who made the blankets have volunteered with us previously at cleanups and other community beautification projects,” said KIB Board Member and Faith Groups Committee Co-chair Arnold Martin. “This was another way that they could be of service, and this has become a very popular activity. Here at KIB, we think that having a beautiful community not only means doing good things for the environment, but also for the people who live here.”
