Mason, Ohio Freshman starts a dessert catering business.

Kennedy A. Harper, now sophomore of Mason, Ohio announced today that she has started a new business, Harper House of Sweets (HHoS). Harper House of Sweets was birthed and inspired out of many months of rehabilitation from a Concussion (brain injury). Harper was in a school bus accident two weeks into her freshman year of high school. She suffered a terrible brain injury and was in rehabilitation for over 8 months until May of 2016. Her rehabilitation consisted of activities that did not require her to stress her brain such as reading, writing, computer, television, walking, gardening. Harper found cooking, then baking and then dipped marshmallows to be her passion. Harper started catering the Summer of 2016 birthday parties, office events, etc. and has turned her rehabilitation activity into a full functioning business. The new company named Harper House of Sweets officially began late August 2016 and is from Harpers desire to make her company a family owned and run business someday.

Harper is currently seeking funding for Harper House of Sweets through Kickstarter to purchase a food truck in order to take her treats on the road for others to enjoy. “After my concussion I realized how vulnerable a person can be and how frustrating your situation is. I wanted to find myself again. I wanted to be me and not feel like a foggy brain. My frustration led me to find something significant to do with my life and to make people smile and bring them joy. I understand how frustrating it is to not be able to do the things you once were able to do and losing the desire to do them. I was a golfer and a gymnast but I no longer had interest in those activities. My brain had gone through a huge transition. Although, my desire has shifted to the food industry I want to share with others that you can have a fulfilling life after a concussion. The athlete in me has not changed which is why I have found something that I can enjoy as much as gymnastics and golf - yoga. After finding a physical activity cooking for others went hand-in-hand. One of the things that make me happy is eating a good dessert so that was what I wanted to bring to others a good dessert to make them happy.”
