Avis Invests to Strengthen Its Position in Southern Africa Car Hire Market
Avis South Africa has grown its share of the car hire market over the past 6 months and expects to retain this share and continue to grow at the mid teens through 2008.
Johannesburg, South Africa, February 11, 2008 --(PR.com)-- “While the South African car rental industry will continue to grow in 2008, growth levels are expected to be at a slightly lower rate than over the past two years,” says Avis Southern Africa MD, Wayne Duvenage.
Duvenage says Avis has grown its share of the car hire market over the past 6 months and expects to retain this share and continue to grow at the mid teens through 2008. “With major expansion plans underway and a brand new “state of the art” call centre in place, Avis is positioning itself for a busy future and the further strengthening of its brand promise “We try harder”,” he says. The recent investment of just over R5-million in the new reservations centre, which can accommodate up to 120 people and field an average of 80,000 calls a month, is already paying dividends with increased volumes, improved efficiencies and service levels.
Duvenage says Avis has begun with its planned R250-million spend (over 3 years) on strategic facility expansions and premises upgrade programme around the country. “This is an investment in the future of car rental and business confidence in South Africa and Avis has catered for anticipated growth over the next two decades,” he says.
These projects include the development of brand new “Greenfield” turn-around facilities at Cape Town as well as the new “King Shaka” (La Mercy) airport in Durban, along with major expansions in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London and a number of city branches around the country. The larger sites will be fitted with new efficient car wash machines which will recycle up to 80% of water used – part of Avis Southern Africa’s focus on the environment within the “Avis Cares” program.
Duvenage says one of Avis Southern Africa’s major drives over the past year was to further improve internal efficiency and offer unquestionably better customer experiences. These recent efforts have already begun to pay dividends with Avis’ customer service index (CSI) ratings increasing significantly over the past 18 months.
“Avis’ rental fleet size has also increased and will peak at over 20,000 vehicles this summer,” says Duvenage. “Avis vehicles are maintained to the highest levels of quality, and we aim to present each car in showroom condition for every rental,” says Duvenage.
As part of its “Avis Cares” program and a commitment towards a greener South Africa; Avis recently introduced the environmentally friendly hybrid Toyota Prius to its extensive fleet; available in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
The new website for Avis’ Club Red, addressing the needs of its valued Travel Agent partners has been launched. “We trust all Club Red members will enjoy the new interactive website and continue to prosper in 2008. Travel Agents are highly respected by Avis as a valued channel of business supply and Avis will always act to protect the Travel Agent in the relationship which they share with their mutual customers” he says.
